At Build-A-Bear Workshop®, our mission is to bring the Teddy Bear to life. The Teddy Bear brings to mind warm thoughts about our childhood, about friendship, about trust and comfort, and also about love. Build-A-Bear Workshop embodies those thoughts in how we run our business everyday.
Bearemy®, our huggable mascot, was born on August 21st, 1998 in St. Louis, Missouri. When he came to us we knew he was a beary special friend, so how would we find the pawfect name? We put out a search in all our Build-A-Bear Workshop stores to find the beary best name for our new friend! We had lots of great ideas, but the one that fit the best was from our young friend Samantha from Madison, Illinois - Bearemy!
Bearemy is 9 ½ paws tall (about 6'4"), but is beary shy about his weight. Let's just say he LOVES honey!
Bearemy quickly became the hottest bear in the country. He enjoys meeting our Guests at new store openings and in-store events. He also travels around to visit children in the hospital and where ever someone needs a hug.
Bearemy gives the beary best hugs and believes that a bear hug is understood in any language! He gives thousands each year!
Look for Bearemy at in-store events at Build-A-Bear Workshop or when a new location is opening in your area!
Bearemy has lots of friends, but his best friend is Pawlette Coufur®, Fashion Advisor to the Furry Famous. She makes sure Bearemy always looks his best! And they have so much fun together playing in the store!
Pawlette Coufur was born in a small carrot patch near Pawston, and soon found the world of furry fashion calling her name. She moved to Bearis and worked with all of the hot designers, including Fuzzy, Grizz, and Floppy. Pawlette Coufur soon became the final word on fashion for the furry. We are un-bear-lievably thrilled to have her with us!
Build-A-Bear Workshop® has always understood the importance of friends. In fact, Build-A-Bear Workshop was born from an idea my friend Katie who was 10 years old at the time and I had when we were out shopping for stuffed toys. When we couldn't find the stuffed toy she wanted, she said, "These are so easy, we could make them." She meant we could do a craft project, but what I heard was so much bigger.
I looked around to see if we could buy a business, like a factory that made stuffed animals and make it even more successful. I found a few that made stuffed animals, but no one wanted to sell. Katie thought we should just do it and so we did. We decided to reinvent the idea of making your own stuffed animals for mall- based retailing. After all, Ray Kroc from McDonald's didn't invent hamburgers and Howard Schultz from Starbucks didn't invent coffee, they just invented how to sell more and how to sell it better.
Every adult I asked about the idea said it would never work, why would anyone ever want to make their own stuffed animal? But every kid said "Where is it?" and "When can I do it?" My teddy bear, "Teddy", was my first best friend and helped shape who I am today, so I knew just how meaningful teddy bear friendship could be.
We opened our first store in 1997 at the Saint Louis Galleria in St. Louis, Missouri. Today there are over 400 stores worldwide and over 100 million furry friends adventuring around the globe. We have grown beyond my wildest imagination!
One 10 year old girl was the inspiration for this entire company, think of the difference you can make! Always believe in your dream.
